Counting down the days. It's coming up fast and I'm looking forward to it. I've got a couple of pretty cool frames on the way and a couple of brands that have been absent from the Vancouver market for much too long (really, an amazing bike like Parlee should have been available a long time ago here.) And one new bike that's never been available before period. www.civiacycles.com is a very interesting place to visit. As cars make less and less sense, especially in urban centers like Vancouver, we'll probably be seeing more bikes like the Civia commuters. It's not a new idea, a look at bike racks around town will show lots of bikes with all the features of the Civia, like lights and internal hubs, and hydraulic disc brakes, full fenders, a comfy and durable seat. This is exactly the kind of bike that hard core commuters have been cobbling together for years, and now it's available as a kit. Notice how far that front fender wraps around? You will when your toes are dry, if you aren't too distracted by how good your back feels when the 12 beers you're hauling home are on the painted to match rack and not your back.
And Chris Dekerf is building me a bike I've dreamed of owning for a long time, a fillet brazed cross bike. I'm hoping he's found the time to get it finished for the grand opening. Speaking of which, looks like we're on track for having the doors open for March 1, maybe even a week or so earlier.
